Can a pet kennel aid in your creative family beach vacations?

You can make use of a pet kennel when you go on your creative family beach vacations, but you should do your homework. Here are a few points to keep in mind:

Which one...
First of all, make sure that the pet kennel you choose is run by professionals who have the skill set and experience that you will need. Ask them how many years of experience they have in the business, and if they have taken any courses in this line of work. You want to make sure that your pet will be staying in a comfortable, pleasant place where they will receive plenty of love and attention.

Depends on the pet...
As people are different, so are animals. Some pets do not adjust well to kennel life. Perhaps it is the unfamiliar surroundings. Perhaps it's the other pets that will be staying at the kennel. Given the temperament of your pet, it might be better to board your pet with a relative or friend while you are away.

How to locate?
When you are looking for a hairdresser, mechanic, or plumber, who do you contact? Probably your family and friends, or those you work with. Why not ask them about a boarding kennel? If they don't have any good recommendations, they probably know somebody who does. Ask around...the information you obtain can be priceless. Don't forget to check the Yellow Pages, or the World Wide Web.

What next?
Now you have to start making some choices. How fancy a place do you want for fido? Just as there are hotels with different ratings for humans, the same goes for pets. Be sure to pay a visit to the various establishments to make sure that they live up to their reputation.

What to look for...
Here are a few things that you check out in your pet's new temporary home. Is it clean? Are the surroundings comfortable? Is the staff friendly and knowledgeable? What sort of exercise facilities will fido have? Don't hesitate to ask plenty of questions...it's your money, and your pet. Depending on the temperament of your pet, you might want to make sure that the different types of animals are stored in different locations at the facility. Check to see how often your pet will be fed, and what sort of food or treats you should leave.

Before you commit...
Now is the time to really do your homework. You want to do a thorough background check on the facility. The American Boarding Kennels Association sets standards for those pet kennels that are members. Don't forget that some states mandate that kennels undergo inspections. Ask to see the kennel's certificate or license, and make sure it is up-to-date. The Better Business Bureau applies to all businesses, and can tell you whether the kennel you are considering has received any complaints.

Before you leave...
Since you will be leaving your pet behind, try to make sure that they have as many comforts of home as possible. Bring any required medication, any special treats or food, and be sure to leave contact information of where you will be staying on your creative family beach vacation. Explain to the staff of the kennel anything you can in regards to your pet's temperament, favorite play toy, or quirks.

While away...
Call the kennel from time to time to make sure that everything is going fine and under control. Be sure to update the kennel with new contact information if you happen to move to another hotel, etc.

If you follow these simple pet kennel rules, you can be assured that your pet will be fine while you are off enjoying your creative family beach vacations.
