Palanga Lithuania is the busiest Lithuanian summer resort. Located on the Baltic Sea, thousands of people flock here during the summer months to not only enjoy the beaches, but the various other entertainment options the area has to offer.

We loved Nida for it's rather secluded atmosphere, and low-key family environment. If you are interested in more "action", then Palanga is the place to go.

During the summer you can enjoy not only the beach area (shown below), but the seaside carnival that is centered around J. Basanavicius Street. There are numerous restaurants and bars, rides, shows, and other entertainment options for you to enjoy. Something for the entire family...

If you need some shade from the summer heat, you can always find a nearby tree or bush to give you some relief (which is nice)...

The nice little walkway shown below took us from our more secluded beach area to the "Main" entertainment and shopping area of Palanga.

Palanga Lithuania started to develop as a resort area back in the early 1800's. The Palanga pier, shown below, has been a favorite spot to stroll and sightsee since about 1892.

We saw a lot of people bring their fishing rods to this pier, so we can only conclude that the fishing is good? We didn't come here to fish this time...but this is definitely something to remember in the future.

Historically speaking, Palanga was first mentioned way back in 1161, when King Valdemar I of Denmark defeated the Curonians and captured the castle situated at this location.

As mentioned previously, there are numerous eating, shopping, and entertainment options in Palanga. Walking up from the pier, along J. Basanavicius Street, we came along this nice little shop.

In closing, Palanga offers something for everyone...whether you are in the mood for sun, sand, and sea, or the more lively food and entertainment options of a city.
