Ocracoke Boat Tours - Visit Portsmouth Island

Ocracoke Boat Tours offer's you a unique opportunity to not only see Ocracoke, and Silver Lake Harbor, from the perspective of a boat, but to also visit the "ghost island" of Portsmouth as well.

Just head on down to the docks, and look for the "Portsmouth Island Tours" sign.

Here is our tour boat. It has comfortable cushions to sit on, which is important. Oh, remember to bring some sunscreen and a nice hat and sunglasses...especially in the summer months when the sun can be especially bright and hot.

As we head out of the harbor you have the opportunity to see the Ocracoke shops and hotels and restaurants from a different perspective. Watch as they get smaller and smaller as you are enveloped by the salty ocean water.

After a short boat ride you will come upon Portsmouth Island, which is effectively now a "ghost" Island...which means nobody lives here on a permanent basis any more. The island offer very secluded beaches, some great birdwatching, and interesting sights. ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) rides are also available for a small fee.

On the ride back to Ocracoke we took a short detour to an island that was loaded with pelicans. They were there with their small chicks...a great secluded place to have your young.

Here's a closeup shot of the pelicans.

As we head back to Silver Lake Harbor you can clearly see the Ocracoke Lighthouse...guiding your way back home...
